Community Profile
The 5 December Community (Thai: ชุมชน 5 ธันวา) is an informal settlement located along Creek Khuwine in Nantharam, adjacent to Thipanet Road, which extends south from Chiang Mai Gate in Haiya Subdistrict, Mueang District, Chiang Mai Province. To honor King Rama IX’s birthday, which symbolized protection and royal grace, residents named their settlement the “5 December Community.” The community has transformed what was once a wasteland into a habitable and thriving living area.
The community distinguishes itself through its distinctive historical wall and landscaped spaces, as well as cultural events that prominently feature food.
